Ministry closes two medical schools in Luwero over expired licences, extortion

The Ministry of Education and Sports has closed two health training schools in Luwero over expired licences.
St. Denison Health Training School and Luweero School of Clinical Officers were closed with immediate effect.
This was done after the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports suspended their licenses until further guidance is given.
The Ministry’s action followed investigations by the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House and Luwero Police that revealed among others that the schools’ provisional licenses expired in 2013 and 2017, respectively, and had not been renewed to date.
The schools were also involved in admission of non-qualifying students who are extorted in the process and issuance of fake academic papers.
