MBUYA. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), has cautioned military leaders against becoming too comfortable in their offices, emphasizing that holding a position should be viewed as a short-term opportunity.
He spoke at a ceremony on Thursday at Mbuya where former Deputy CDF Lt Gen Peter Elwelu handed over to Lt Gen Sam Okiding, stressing that all officers should understand that their tenure in any office is temporary and should focus on enhancing operational efficiency.
Muhoozi emphasized that these positions are transitional and meant to enhance the effectiveness of operations. He urged soldiers of all ranks to prioritize unity and collaboration, highlighting the importance of leaving a positive impact during their service.
He thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for appointing suitable individuals to these roles and encouraged new office bearers to make significant contributions in their new positions. Muhoozi also commended outgoing officers for their service.
Elwelu expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him during his tenure and pledged continued service in another capacity as a special presidential advisor. He acknowledged the support of the Ministry of Defence, Veteran Affairs, and the UPDF fraternity during his time as Deputy CDF.
Okiding praised Elwelu’s service and expressed readiness to serve alongside others for the greater good. He emphasized the importance of timing and divine guidance in one’s career.
