Ministry of works, police conduct bus compliance crackdown at Kisenyi terminal

KAMPALA – The Ministry of Works and Transport, in partnership with the Uganda Police Force, on Thursday launched a coordinated compliance and enforcement operation targeting public service buses at the Kisenyi Bus Terminal in Kampala.

The exercise is being led by the Commissioner for Transport Regulation and Safety, Mr. Winstone Katushabe, as part of the government’s continued efforts to improve road safety and ensure strict adherence to transport regulations.

Officials are inspecting buses to verify compliance with key legal and safety requirements, including drivers’ documentation, vehicle roadworthiness, operator licensing, and passenger safety standards.

Authorities said the operation aims to ensure that only compliant, safe and roadworthy public service vehicles are allowed to operate on Uganda’s roads, thereby reducing the risk of road crashes and enhancing public confidence in the country’s transport system.

The enforcement exercise also serves as a reminder to transport operators to maintain high safety standards and comply with all regulatory requirements before putting their vehicles on the road.

The Ministry of Works and Transport said similar compliance operations will continue across the country as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen road safety and improve the quality of public transport services.
