KAMPALA: The Masaka Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded four suspects, including alleged notorious land grabber Zulaika Nakabiri, on charges linked to land grabbing and related offences in Masaka District.
Nakabiri was jointly charged with Bugembe Edrisa, Dumba Abdu Swaburu and Makumbi Abbey following investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Uganda Police Force and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Investigators accuse the group of illegally occupying land, assaulting residents, trespassing on private property and destroying crops, trees, homes and other developments in various parts of Masaka.
The four were remanded to prison until August 13, 2026, as investigations continue.
In the same court session, Misaala Cell LC I Chairperson Ntale Godfrey and Juuko John were charged with theft and conspiracy to defraud in connection with the alleged theft of Parish Development Model funds.
According to the prosecution, the suspects convinced Ntuumwa Elvis that they would help him access the government programme. They allegedly asked him to register a new SIM card, obtained the mobile money PIN and later withdrew Shs1 million that had been deposited onto the account.
The alleged fraud came to light after the victim reported the matter during the ongoing “Expose the Corrupt” public engagement campaign in Masaka.
The court remanded the two accused until August 13, 2026.
Officials said the arrests followed complaints from residents during the anti-corruption campaign being conducted in Masaka under the leadership of the Minister of Local Government, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi.
