Alleged 785kg gold theft probe leads to Shs8m bribery case
WAKISO — Investigations into the alleged theft of 785 kilograms of gold from the premises of Details Security Company Limited have led to the arrest and prosecution of a man accused of attempting to bribe police officers guarding the scene.
Kayiwa Amir was on Monday arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of offering gratification and remanded until September 30, 2026.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit said Kayiwa allegedly offered Shillings 8 million to police officers on August 29, 2026, at Lubowa in Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District.
The alleged bribe was reportedly intended to secure access to the office of Asimwe Emmanuel at Details Security Company Limited, where Kayiwa allegedly intended to remove what investigators described as vital evidence.
The alleged bribery incident followed a complaint lodged with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit over the reported theft of 785 kilograms of gold from the company’s premises.
Following the complaint, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and police in Wakiso secured and cordoned off the premises to preserve the scene as investigations into the alleged theft continued.
The Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions were also involved in the subsequent prosecution of Kayiwa.
The case is scheduled to come back before the Anti-Corruption Court on September 30, 2026.
Kayiwa is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.
