New Airport terminal launched ahead of NAM conference in Uganda

ENTEBBE. The Uganda Civil Aviation has launched a new terminal ahead of the Non Aligned Movement conference due in Kampala.

The new structure now, according to Col. Godfrey Tukamwakira, the project coordinator for the construction works at Entebbe International Airport, has the arrivals and departures terminals, targeting more than a million people in the next few days. “Eventually, we shall keep on upgrading until it gets to 4 million passengers,” says Col Godfrey Tukamwakira.

Both terminals have now been equipped with more space to further support easy handling of passengers who want to jet in and out of the country. A number of high end specifications in construction, with a canopy that serves all guests to be able to carry on with their activities even when it is raining, avoiding weather hindrances.

“We are going to continue working because we have three phases of construction. We have to continue beautifying, cleaning and complete work on the second and third floors, which we are already starting,” Tukamwakira says. Also, interventions have been made for people with disabilities to immediately use the terminal with ease.

Also, security has been beefed up at the gateway as the country awaits guests who will soon start jetting into the country for both the summits.

Earlier, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, the Security Minister, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala, the Works and Transport Minister and the coordinator for the NAM conference preparations, also Head of Public Service Ms. Lucky Nakyobe were at the airport to ascertain the readiness of the facility to handle VIPs like the heads of states and government who will soon start jetting into the country for the conference.
