Makerere University COVAB Leadership Campaign
KAMPALA. As the campaign for the selection of the new office bearer for the Principal and deputy principal for different colleges in Makerere university intensify, the current principal of the college of veterinary medicine animal resources and Biosecurity Prof Frank Mwine and is fighting to reclaim his position, is at losing and as he accused of upholding the standard of the college.
It’s claimed that Prof Mwine has failed to fit in the shoes of his predecessor Prof John David Kabasa, who left office at the age of retirement.
Prof Kabasa transformed the college of veterinary medicine animal resources and Biosecurity, from school of veterinary medicine to the current college status. He took the mantle for Principalship for two consecutive terms.
Sources claim that Prof Mwine has not delivered and is not fit for the second term of claiming that during his term of office the teaching standards have sharply declined forcing some of the senior lecturers to relocate for greener pastures.
They claim that recently section of students wanted to strike claiming that they had gone for so long without lecturers.
Sources claim the recalling of Buyana university farm by senator was another downfall for COVAB, saying that COVAB is the epitome of veterinary services and is mandated to oversee the services of the animals in the university, however calling back was a big blow to the university hence the poor leadership style of the current leadership of the college.
However, those in support of Prof Mwine regime claim that Mwine predecessor, Prof John David Kabasa, is behind some of the negative voices about Prof Mwine. They agree Prof Mwine has his own weakness which might have led to his mistakes in his leadership but saying that given a chance there is room for improvement.
For the transfer of the university farm the Claim it’s Prof John Kabasa who clandestinely influenced the Senate office to recall the Buyana university farm. Sources say the manager of the Farm Ms. Nansubuga Frances is close relative to Prof Kabasa and was at the verge of losing her job as Prof Mwine wanted to replace her with another person.
Another reason against Prof Mwine is that he has failed to uphold the standards of AFRISA, the brainchild of Prof Kabasa. They claim that Prof Kabasa wants someone who can swiftly manage FRISA well because by the time he left office AFRISA had gained momentum at national level.
Both Prof Kabasa and Prof Mwine could not be reached for comments as their known phone contacts continuously went unanswered.
