Buwote Stephen, the SACCO chairperson, Nangobi Safina, the secretary, and Nankangu Ziyada, the treasurer, were arraigned before the Iganga Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 5, 2025.

The accused allegedly demanded money from residents between May and July 2025, falsely claiming that payment was a condition to access PDM funds.

The victims included Makiika Julius, Kyesubire Scovia, Nabona Farouk, and Namulondo Betty, who paid varying amounts. Investigations revealed that these demands were baseless and constituted extortion and fraud.

The court remanded the suspects until September 16, 2025, pending their bail application. The case has sparked outrage in Luuka District, with authorities assuring the public that such corruption will not be tolerated.

The joint investigation was conducted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP)
