MPIGI. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), led by Gen. Henry Isoke, has coordinated with Mpigi Police to arrest five suspects involved in the illegal eviction of a Catholic priest.

The operation took place in Ntinzi Village, Nkozi Sub-county, following a land dispute that turned into a forced takeover.

Details of the Incident

The primary suspect, Odida Paul, claims ownership of 100 acres in the area. However, authorities allege he unlawfully directed four men—Sande Godfrey, Kyebale Daniel, Lukyamuzi Eric, and Magawuli Geoffrey—to forcibly occupy a specific 5-acre portion.

This contested land is held by Fr. Bwanika Edward, a long-term kibanja (tenant) holder. During the illegal occupation, the suspects reportedly destroyed Fr. Bwanika’s livelihood, including: Extensive coffee plantations and Banana (matooke) gardens.

SHACU intervened swiftly after receiving a formal complaint. The unit dispatched a team to support territorial police, who caught the five suspects while they were still occupying the priest’s land.

The suspects are currently in custody and face several charges, including forcible entry and malicious damage to property.

Investigations remain ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage and ensure legal protections for the tenant are upheld.

KAMPALA. Brigadier General Henry Isoke, Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), has emphasized the crucial role police investigators play in the fight against corruption.

Addressing senior police officers from the Criminal Investigations, Professional Service, and Canine Units at the Uganda Police Training Facility in Kikandwa on Monday, Gen Isoke stressed that integrity among law enforcement officers is paramount.

Gen Isoke, now in office for three years highlighted the importance of police investigators.

“Police investigators are the foundation of public safety and justice, and any form of corruption within their ranks undermines the very essence of law enforcement,” he said.

He urged officers to embody integrity and serve above self to improve the image of the police force.

Gen Isoke emphasized the need for detectives to be role models in the fight against corruption, saying, “If we are clean, corruption can easily be defeated.”

He called for continued collaboration between SHACU and the police, advocating for synergized teamwork among all anti-corruption agencies for the greater national good.

Gen Isoke concluded by emphasizing the significance of criminal investigators, stating, “Criminal investigators are pillars upon which the country rests.”

The training session is part of Gen Isoke’s and general government’s commitment to combating corruption and promoting integrity among public servants.
