]]> BUSIA. Busia District LC5 Chairperson Stephen Mugeni Wasike has been charged with alleged stealing motor vehicle parts valued at approximately UGX 30 million.

He appeared before the Busia Chief Magistrate Court on May 2, 2025, and was remanded until May 8, 2025.

According to the charge sheet, Wasike allegedly stole an engine and gearbox from a Toyota Hilux double cabin pickup truck, registration number UAK 827Z, belonging to the Busia District Local Government.

The incident occurred on March 8, 2025, at the district’s parking yard.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Directorate and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, investigated and arraigned Wasike in court.

Wasike’s actions have sparked widespread attention, given his position as LC5 Chairperson.

The case has been adjourned to May 8, 2025, for further mention. If convicted, Wasike may face penalties for violating Section 250(c) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.

The state House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has arraigned Mutebi John Rogers, Bbale Joseph, and Matovu John at the Masaka Chief Magistrates Court on charges of theft and neglect of duty and alleged misappropriation of funds meant for PDM SACCO members in Bukakata Sub-County, Masaka District.

Mutebi and Bbale are accused of embezzling millions between December 2023 and October 2024, while Matovu, an Agricultural Officer/Focal Person for Masaka District, is charged with failing in his oversight duties regarding the PDM SACCOs in the district. The accused have been remanded until December 23, 2024.

These high-profile arrests come in the wake of a thorough inspection tour and public meeting spearheaded by Hon.
