The suspects, some previously posing as opposition activists, have been charged and remanded in custody, according to a statement released today by Chris Magezi one of the UPDF spokesmen.

The statement says that the vandalism of electricity infrastructure has significantly affected districts including Wakiso, Mukono, Kayunga, Luweero, Nakaseke, Kiboga, Nakasongola, Mityana, Mubende, Mpigi, and the greater Masaka region.

Chris Magezi says the Inter-Agency Security Committee, chaired by UPDF Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is coordinating efforts to infiltrate and disrupt terrorist and subversive cells.

“The committee has resolved to take firm action against ring leaders, organizers, and funders of rebel activities, particularly ahead of the upcoming general elections”, Magezi alleged.

UPDF says Intelligence suggests some European diplomatic missions, including the German Embassy, are involved in funding and mobilizing these groups.

The government has condemned foreign interference and will take decisive action against those destabilizing the country.

The UPDF and security committee advise Ugandan youths to avoid falling prey to enemy political actors and instead embrace government initiatives for wealth creation and youth development. Those involved in treasonous activities will be identified, isolated, and dealt with according to the law.

There was no word yet from NUP.

European Union diplomats yesterday visited President Museveni’s brother Gen Salim Saleh to try to defuse tensions between them and the chief of defense forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba who attacked them after their visit to NUP a fortnight ago.

In the recent weeks, Muhoozi has posted on X  he was going to arrest Bobi Wine anytime.

PLU National vice chairman Michael Nuwagira Toyota called Mawanda to order after the mobilisation office posted about a meeting between Adeke and Mawanda.

The post on X read thus: “Our Director Mobilization Hon. @MichealMawanda1 held a meeting with Hon. Hellen Adeke Akor the aspiring Woman MP, Bukedea District (PLU Leaning), who paid him a courtesy visit at the PLU secretariat in Naguru.”

Mawanda’s office further posted: “She updated him on the progress of PLU mobilization in Bukedea district and the Director was impressed with her tremendous work on ground.”

However Toyota, a brother of President Museveni and uncle to Muhoozi Kainerugaba, shot up through his X handle saying: “Honorable Mawanda, I would like to bring to your attention a matter that may cause confusion among the PLU fraternity and the public.

To avoid unnecessary speculation, it’s a paramount concern to distinguish between issues handled by the Director of Mobilization’s office and those beyond your jurisdiction.

Clarifying these roles will help address matters efficiently and prevent unnecessary discussion.

Toyota’s post did not go down well with Mawanda who sent the former back to his lane thus:

By press time, neither General Secretary Kabanda, nor Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba had made any statement about the clash.

Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni and commander of the nation’s land forces, escalated his violent rhetoric against opposition leader Bobi Wine on Sunday using the derogatory nickname “Kabobi” to lash the National Unity Platform (NUP) president with crude, militaristic threats.

In a series of social media tirades, Muhoozi vowed to personally assassinate Wine—a former musician turned democracy icon—while mocking him as a “baboon” and a “drug addict.”

The threats, unprecedented in their graphic vulgarity, underscore the regime’s desperation to crush dissent ahead of Uganda’s 2026 elections.

Bobi Wine (real name Robert Kyagulanyi), whose NUP party has galvanized youth-led opposition to Museveni’s 39 year rule, has faced relentless state persecution since nearly defeating the president in the violent, fraud-tainted 2021 polls.

“If Kabobi even thinks of causing any chaos in Uganda, I will personally put a bullet in his baboon head! If he EVEN thinks about it!”, Muhoozi posted on X on Sunday.

Muhoozi, long seen as Museveni’s heir apparent, has increasingly positioned himself as the regime’s attack dog, using social media to threaten critics with death. His latest outbursts, however, mark a stark departure from formal political discourse and a breach to Uganda People’s Defence Forces code of conduct.

On Friday, security agents raided NUP offices at Kamwokya and Kavuke taking away official documents. Police said in a statement they acted on information NUP was training militants.

In his series of X posts on Sunday Gen Muhoozi insinuated he was part of the people who raided NUP.

“I entered Kabobi’s office the other day only to find weed and condoms. The guy is an idiot! Now I’m going to his home! If anyone tries to fight we will KILL!”, Gen Muhoozi wrote.

He added; “I am going to utterly crush Kabobi’s balls.”

Muhoozi has often used the term “Kabobi”—a Swahili slang for grilled meat—mocks Wine’s prior music career and paints him as unserious.

Analysts say that Muhoozi’s claims about discovering “weed and condoms” in Wine’s office echo regime propaganda framing the NUP as morally degenerate.

The threats of lethal force align with Uganda’s security tactics: NUP offices have been routinely raided, and over 50 supporters were killed during 2021 election protests.

Wine, a former MP, has survived multiple assassination attempts, torture, and treason charges. His “People Power” movement, symbolized by red berets, continues to be criminalized.

Muhoozi’s threats now signal a dangerous new phase. By framing Wine as a public enemy warranting extrajudicial murder, he tacitly greenlights state violence.

Analysts warn Muhoozi’s rhetoric exposes the regime’s fear of Wine’s enduring influence. With Museveni, 79, reportedly ailing, Muhoozi is likely burnishing his strongman credentials. Yet his crude threats risk alienating international allies; the U.S. recently sanctioned Ugandan officials over human rights abuses.

As Uganda’s political climate hurtles toward crisis, Muhoozi’s vows to “crush Kabobi” signal not just personal animosity, but a regime willing to shed blood to cling to power.

Muhoozi’s rhetoric reveals the regime’s panic over Wine’s unbroken influence, particularly among Uganda’s youth, 80% of whom are under 30. With Museveni, 79, reportedly ailing, Muhoozi is burnishing his strongman credentials.

Wine responds

Wine took screenshots of Gen Muhoozi posts and alluded that dismissing Muhoozi’s threats ignores his illegal military command- the abductions, torture, and raids that prove he acts on them.

Wine rallied  the world to “stop this rogue regime’s madness. Uganda’s crisis cannot be ignored.”

KAMPALA. Uganda’s Controversial Chief of defence forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has issued a chilling warning to all UP uniform wearers saying all will be killed.

”From now on, if we find ANYONE wearing a NUP uniform, we will kill them! No questions!” Muhoozi posted on his X handle on Saturday night.

The threat, has escalated uneasiness among the opposition with already dozens of NUP supporters abducted and their whereabouts unknown.

Uganda’s political climate is volatile where opposition groups face intensifying repression.

The National Unity Platform (NUP), led by pop star-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, has grown rapidly since 2020, capitalizing on youth discontent over unemployment and Museveni’s 39 year rule, now increasingly becoming tyrant.

NUP’s signature red berets and red-striped attire have become symbols of resistance, prompting the government without any law citation to criminalize the attire citing “illegitimate paramilitarism.”

Despite arrests and crackdowns, NUP supporters continued donning the garb, framing it as peaceful dissent. Hundreds of NUP supporters have been jailed, most without trial for years.

Muhoozi’s Saturday declaration reflects the government’s hardening stance on NUP.

UK based NUP supporter Richard Kizza suggest the military, long accused of partisan loyalty to Museveni’s regime, aims to quash NUP’s visibility ahead of 2026 elections.

On Friday, Security forces have previously raided NUP offices, detained activists, and allegedly tortured. Two NUP offices were Friday raided and their files taken by security agents who claimed they acted on intelligence NUP were training militants.

Human Rights Watch has variously condemned the raids on NUP as a “green light for extrajudicial killings,” while NUP has accused Muhoozi of “state terrorism.”

Muhoozi’s rhetoric, however, resonates with hardliners framing NUP as destabilizing. Pro-government media activists link the party to “foreign-backed chaos,” though evidence remains scant. Meanwhile, NUP denies violence, asserting their struggle is constitutional.

International observers warn Uganda risks spiraling deeper into autocracy.

The U.S. and EU have sanctioned officials for rights abuses, but Museveni’s alliance with regional powers buffers external pressure.

For ordinary Ugandans, Muhoozi’s words signal darker days.

The incident has deepened political divisions, with NUP supporters condemning the arrests as politically motivated and a threat to democratic freedoms.

NUP leader Rober Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine condemned the abduction, calling it part of a broader crackdown by the government.

In a post on X, he stated: “Our comrade and Head of Mobilisation for @NUP_Ug, Comrade Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu, has been abducted by heavily armed men and taken away in a drone to an unknown destination! He has been abducted at gunpoint from Kubbiri Roundabout. The criminal regime is on a rampage.”

There has been widespread accusations of government forces witch-hunting the opposition and many NUP supporters are being held in detentions, some held since the 2021 elections. Uganda will hold it elections next year.

The sight of Dr. Kizza Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate and leading opposition figure, visibly frail and struggling to breathe at Buganda Road court in Kampala on Friday, is a damning indictment of Uganda’s justice system.

Besigye’s weakened state, reportedly due to a hunger strike protesting his unlawful detention, has sparked outrage and raised urgent questions about the government’s commitment to the rule of law. Despite a Supreme Court order for his release, Besigye remains behind bars, flagrantly violating both Ugandan law and international human rights standards. This is not just a political issue—it is a moral crisis exposing the erosion of democracy under President Yoweri Museveni’s regime.

Uganda’s judiciary has been systematically undermined by executive interference. Last month, the Supreme Court ruled that civilians cannot be tried in military courts—a landmark decision for justice. President Museveni responded that the country was not being ruled by Judges but guerrillas-he led through a civil from 1980 until he seized government in 1986.

Besigye’s continued detention on military charges makes a mockery of the Supreme Court ruling. By defying the court, the government violates Article 28 of Uganda’s Constitution, which guarantees the right to a fair trial, and Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which prohibits arbitrary detention. Uganda’s actions betray its legal and international obligations.

The government’s claim that Besigye is in “good health” and not on a hunger strike is a blatant attempt to mislead the public. Eyewitness accounts from his associates paint a starkly different picture, describing him as weak and struggling to breathe. This contradiction raises serious concerns about the transparency of Uganda’s prison system. If the authorities have nothing to hide, why deny independent medical assessments? The refusal suggests a deliberate effort to conceal the truth and suppress dissent.

Besigye’s detention is a chilling reminder of the shrinking space for political opposition in Uganda. By targeting him, the government sends a clear message: challenge the status quo, and face harsh reprisals. This strategy is not only undemocratic but also dangerously shortsighted.

The international community must join Ugandans to act. Uganda’s actions violate both domestic and international law. The African Union and the United Nations must hold Uganda accountable for its disregard of judicial independence and political freedoms. Besigye’s imprisonment is not just an attack on one man—it is an assault on democracy and justice. Allowing such impunity sets a dangerous precedent for authoritarian regimes globally.

On January 9, former National unity Platform Kawempe North Member of Parliament Mohammed Ssegirinya died. The public blamed a judge Lawrence Tweyanze for being used by the state to deny Ssegirinya bail to seek specialised medical care. Dr. Kizza Besigye’s lawyer Erias Lukwago has called for the release Besigye to enable him get medical attention to no heed. The chief of the Uganda Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba insists Kiiza Besigye will leave Luzira Prison in coffin- scenario that could cause chaos if it did happen. Release Dr Besigye to deter chaos and honor the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“H:E the president has appointed Maj Gen Richard Otto the New Commander of Mountain Division and therefore Comdr Operation Shuuja, Maj. Gen. Dick Olum heads to South Sudan Stabilisation Mechanism where Maj. Gen. Otto has been representing Uganda,” Akiiki said.

“We congratulate the two Generals upon their new assignments and wish them good luck.”

The changes come hardly a week the Chief of Defense Forces held a meeting with UPDF leaders together Congolese counterparts in the DRC.

However, the details of the meeting remain unknown to the public.

Inside sources reveal that two teams have emerged in cabinet, with one supporting MK while others are secretly avoiding him and distancing themselves from the General’s activities.

Sources further revealed that apart from Gen Kahinda Otafiire, Ministers David Bahati, Henry Musaasizi, Francis Mwebesa, Chris Baryomunsi, Raphael Magyezi, Jim Muhwezi and Tom Butiime are some of the key ministers who have refused to back the young General.

Meanwhile Frank Tumwebazi has openly thrown his weight behind Muhoozi despite President Museveni warning that those behind his son’s back were oportunists seeking self satisfaction.

Recently, the NRM secretary General said PLU was part of the part and was mobilising for the good of the establishment.

The probing by Muhoozi was triggered by last year’s embarassing moment in Kabale when Muhoozi visited and the streets were literary empty.

It is alleged that Muhoozi has directed his team to discover why some of these MPs, especially from Kabale are showing less or no support to him.

Most of the MPs we contacted merely hang up their phones after being asked whether they support Muhoozi or not.
