Speaking after purchasing kits worth shs10m on Thursday at the PLU headquarters in Kampala, the Women’s League Publicity Secretary, Norah Robinah Akwi, who represented the Secretary for Finance Ann Ruyondo, said the run goes beyond a celebration and is rooted in a deeper cause of supporting vulnerable communities.

“When you look at this T-shirt, it says ‘run for hope’. Actually, this is not only about a birthday. It is about running for hope,” Akwi said.

She explained that the run is a charity initiative targeting orphanages and vulnerable children across the country, noting that Uganda continues to face challenges of street children, orphans, and children from needy families.

“When you look at our country, we have so many vulnerable children. So I’m encouraging all the women in this country to come and participate in this run as we celebrate the birthday of MK,” she added.

Akwi also conveyed greetings from the Women’s League leadership, including National Treasurer Ann Ruyondo, who was unable to attend due to official duties abroad, as well as other executive members who she said are fully supportive of the mobilization efforts.

Akwi further commended the PLU secretariat team for their efforts in organizing the event, singling out Secretary General David Kamanda, Head of Mobilization Michael Mawanda, and other staff, for working tirelessly to ensure the success of the run.

“It is always good to give credit where it is due,” she said, thanking the organizing team for their dedication.

Meanwhile, Juliet Nassuna, the Vice Chairperson of the Women’s League for Buganda, called on women from the region to turn up in large numbers and take part in the run.

“I’m here to mobilise my fellow women from Buganda to come and participate in the birthday run for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba this week,” Nassuna said.

Organizers say the MK Birthday Run scheduled for this Sunday is expected to attract participants from across the country, with the Women’s League playing a central role in ensuring strong female representation.

The event is being positioned not only as a celebration but also as a platform to promote compassion, solidarity, and support for vulnerable groups in society.

Apart from those presented and represented, other Women’s League leaders who contributed to the cause included General Secretary Jackline Amongin, Vice Chairperson for Western Region Enid Mwesigye, Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region Captain Grace Omuron, and Vice Chairperson for Karamoja Margret Lomoyange.
