NUP rebel MPs defy Bobi, refuse to attend urgent meeting

20 Mar 2024

At least 18 MPs who scribe to the National Unity Platform (NUP) did not turn out for the Tuesday meeting, sending mixed signals to a party already engulfed in controversies.

Party president Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) convened the meeting to lambast the legislators on matters of corruption in the House only for 18 to turn down the invites.

After the meeting Bobi Wine posted: “This afternoon, we were delighted to interact with the @NUP_Ug’s Members of Parliament with whom we discussed a number of issues.”

“Most importantly, I charged them to individually and collectively take a firm stand against corruption and abuse of public funds, otherwise our people will start asking questions,” he added.

“The only thing that will drive a clear distinction between us and those we seek to drive out of power is how and where we stand on moral issues.”

Below are some of those who attended.

Already NUP is divided over the party’s decision to fire Central deputy president Mathias Mpuuga from the position of Parliamentary Commissioner, replacing him with Francis Zaake.

Below is the list of those who did not attend.
