Man Charged with Extortion After False Murder Plot Claim

16 Apr 2026

A man has been arraigned before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of demanding money with menaces, following an alleged scheme to extort millions of shillings from a city resident.

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the suspect, identified as Kizito Ronald, was jointly presented in court by investigators from the Criminal Investigations Directorate and prosecutors from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Prosecution states that in February 2026, while at Kira Police Station, Kizito allegedly made a false report claiming he had been hired by one Mugimba Robert to murder Mugimba’s wife.

However, in March 2026, Kizito reportedly confessed that the allegation was fabricated. It is alleged that he then demanded UGX 4 million from Mr. Mugimba, threatening to maintain or escalate the false accusations unless he was paid to retract them.

Authorities say Kizito was arrested while receiving the money in a controlled operation.

He has since been charged with demanding money with menaces and remanded to prison until April 30, 2026, as investigations continue.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by anti-corruption agencies to crack down on extortion and malicious reporting, which officials say undermine public trust in law enforcement institutions.
