Busia LC5 Chairperson Charged with Theft of UGX 30m Vehicle Parts

BUSIA. Busia District LC5 Chairperson Stephen Mugeni Wasike has been charged with alleged stealing motor vehicle parts valued at approximately UGX 30 million.
He appeared before the Busia Chief Magistrate Court on May 2, 2025, and was remanded until May 8, 2025.
According to the charge sheet, Wasike allegedly stole an engine and gearbox from a Toyota Hilux double cabin pickup truck, registration number UAK 827Z, belonging to the Busia District Local Government.
The incident occurred on March 8, 2025, at the district’s parking yard.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Directorate and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, investigated and arraigned Wasike in court.
Wasike’s actions have sparked widespread attention, given his position as LC5 Chairperson.
The case has been adjourned to May 8, 2025, for further mention. If convicted, Wasike may face penalties for violating Section 250(c) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.
