KAMPALA: The former leader of the Forum for Democratic Change, Col (Rtd) Dr Kiiza Besigye has attacked President Yoweri Museveni’s government after thieves stole bunches of matooke from his plantation in Wakiso district.

“Six large bunches of bananas (Matooke) were stolen from our small Kasangati garden last night!” Besigye posted on his social media handle on X, formerly Twitter.

“This is why many people have resorted to sleeping in their gardens- guarding. It’s a compound socioeconomic challenge Uganda faces after 40 yrs of M7/NRM Junta’s rule!” Besigye added.

He closed his post by giving Museveni a ‘red’ card.

Comments flow in:

Dr George posted: “Thats thefty. Report it to police instead of compounding it. Some people are naturally thieves even if you do what they will still steal. But when you report to police they can be arrested, and this can save the whole village.”

Bob said: “Well I might not be in support of theft or the current regime but how can you convince me that when you or any Messiah becomes president, theft will stop for good? Really? And you blame M7 for this?”

Ivan kuz posted: “Just let them Get what to eat since the schemes of operation wealth creation emyooga PDM  failed to provide people with sustainable lives and people resort to stealing @kizzabesigye1 thank you for providing food to people though not officially through giving but them stealing!!!”

@STumwakire: “NRM steals matooke now.”

Ezra Rigambagye: “If u can’t protect your garden, then u won’t manage this country 😀.. sorry anyway.”

Ian Gumisiriza, Bishop: “Simply put, the NRM you brought in 1986 made you rich and impoverished them, they have come to collect. Be a good christian and share without complaining.”
