Thugs break into prison, steal four guns
KAMPALA: Four guns have been recovered from daring thugs who broke into Kibuku Prison armoury in Mbale City, robbed the Russian-made AK47 riffles and 116 bullets.
Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine on Monday acknowledged the theft, adding that all the stores had been recovered.
“Following a joint security operation, all the four guns and 116 rounds of ammunitions were recovered the following day (Friday),” Baine said.
“As a result of the operation, two suspects have been apprehended and are currently in police custody,” he added.
According to Baine, a team of inspectors from the prisons has been dispatched to Kibuku to establish facts about the incident.
“A strong appreciation goes to the sister forces and the public for their vigilance that led to the success of the joint operation,” Baine noted.
