Wine further criticized Judge Singiza for his handling of previous cases, including one prior to the exile of writer Kakwenza Rukirabashaija and his disapproval of corruption charges against Members of Parliament accused of misusing public funds.
Brig Isoke underscored the detrimental impact of corruption on Uganda’s development and stability. “Corruption undermines the delivery of essential services and diverts resources meant for the public good into the hands of a few, perpetuating inequality,” he stated. He emphasized that such practices erode trust in institutions and fuel social unrest, posing a direct threat to peace.
The detention came after Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, issued a public warning on social media, authorising security agencies to arrest NUP members wearing military-like attire.
They join other suspects, including Kampala District Land Board Chairperson Balondemu David, Mkwe Eric, and Ibona Joseph, who were previously charged in connection with the same scheme.
