Stay vigilant, Kabaka warns Baganda
KAMPALA. Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has cautioned his subjects to be wary of individuals seeking to undermine the Kingdom and advised them to stay vigilant.
On the occasion of his 31st coronation anniversary celebrated today, the Kabaka, who is currently under medical care, addressed his subjects via a televised speech, urging them to remain alert.
Despite being away for treatment for several months, Kabaka stated that he has been closely monitoring all the recent developments.
“The challenges we have faced in recent months have led some individuals, either unknowingly or intentionally, to disrespect and violate the values of the kingdom and display improper behavior. They have engaged in various actions to mislead our people about the throne and the kingdom. This poses a significant threat. It is essential to exercise caution with such individuals,” the Kabaka emphasized.
Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II stressed the importance of unity, preservation, and adherence to their traditions and customs. He warned against neglecting these aspects as they could be exploited by adversaries.
Clarifying the kingdom’s norms, Kabaka Mutebi highlighted that the Kabaka is not appointed by clan chiefs but holds a distinct role.
“The appointed chiefs are well recognized, understand their roles, and know themselves,” he remarked.
Furthermore, he elucidated on his governance structure, stating, “The King governs the kingdom in collaboration with the Katikkiro, whom the King personally selects. According to our customs, the Kabaka has the authority to establish or abolish certain traditions as per the prevailing circumstances.”
Concurrently, numerous supporters of Buganda participated in prayers commemorating Kabaka Mutebi’s 31st coronation anniversary at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala. The Kabaka was represented by royal family members led by Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda. The prayers, conducted by Namirembe Diocesan Bishop Moses Banja, commended the Kabaka for his endeavors to enhance the welfare of his subjects throughout the years.
