SH-ACU Arrests State House Impersonator

18 Nov 2025

KAMPALA, UGANDA – The fight against corruption has scored yet another victory this week as a man identified as Mawejje John was arrested and arraigned on charges of personation.

The operation was a collaborative effort led by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), in collaboration with the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and the Criminal Investigations Directorate.

Mawejje allegedly posed as an employee of the State House on July 11, 2025, at Embassy House in Kampala, attempting to deceive Namakula Rose Mary.

Investigations by the SHACU revealed that Mawejje had summoned Namakula to a bogus “investigation meeting” at the President’s office concerning a land transaction.

He instructed her to bring signed transfer forms for a property she had sold in 2004 in Maganjo Zone, Wakiso District, intending to defraud her.

Mawejje was subsequently arrested and the relevant land documents were recovered. He has been formally charged and remanded until November 19, 2025.

SHACU partnership with other agencies, according to officials, underscores the government’s resolve to combat fraud and protect citizens from being extorted by individuals misrepresenting high office.
