IGG Orders Interdiction of Seven Senior Parliament Officials Over Corruption Charges
KAMPALA – The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, has directed the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, to immediately interdict seven senior officials of Parliament who are facing corruption-related charges before the Anti-Corruption Court.
According to a press statement issued by the Inspectorate of Government on Friday, the interdictions should remain in force pending the final determination of the criminal proceedings against the officials.
Those affected are Chris Ariko Obore, Director of Communications and Public Affairs; Adilo Daniel, Director of Human Resource; Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Research Officer; and Okiw Emmanuel Emuron, Principal Protocol Officer.
Others are Obetaba Vincent, Capacity Development Officer; Okema Leonard, Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker; and Litu Stella, Office Supervisor in the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms.
The seven officials are currently on remand at Luzira Prison after they were arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on July 1, 2026.
They were charged with embezzlement and causing financial loss under Sections 18(a)(i) and (ii) and 19(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act.
In the directive, the IGG cited Article 230 of the Constitution and Section 13(6) of the Inspectorate of Government Act, which empower the Inspector General of Government to issue orders and directions deemed necessary or appropriate in the circumstances.
The Inspectorate said public interest requires that the officials be suspended from exercising the powers and functions of their offices while the criminal case is still before court.
“The directive underscores the IG’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of public institutions and ensuring that due process is upheld while the matter is before the courts,” the statement reads.
The criminal proceedings against the officials are still ongoing before the Anti-Corruption Court.
