KAMPALA.The Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has stirred fresh controversy following a series of provocative social media posts targeting European Union and the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC).

The uproar began Thursday after Muhoozi shared a photo of National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine engaging with European Union (EU) diplomats who visited Kavule this week.

“This is an Abomination! @EUinUG is really playing with fire. Sawa!”  Muhoozi shared on his verified X handle a post that has widely been viewed as a warning to the EU for its interaction with the opposition.

In a second tweet, Muhoozi lashed out at the UHRC for writing him a letter, saying on May 2 in which they reminded him to free Bobi Wine’s Body guard Edward Ssebuwuufu aka Eddie Mutwe- a man Muhoozi had claimed he was being held “in my basement.”

“LOL! If these people value the lives we gave them they MUST NEVER even think of sending me such a STUPID letter again! This is their last warning! I expect an apology.” Muhoozi wrote.

The comments have triggered a flood of criticism across social media, with many Ugandans expressing alarm.

He remarked in a repost that Uganda is experiencing a dark period under leaders; “The lives we gave them!” So Museveni and his brutal son believe that they gave us the lives we have. After seeing this, you then understand why they treat us the way they do,”

Muhoozi’s latest incidents add to a growing list of contentious episodes involving Muhoozi, raising deeper questions about the military’s influence over Uganda’s political direction. As the country moves toward its next election cycle, both domestic and international observers are expected to watch developments closely—particularly regarding respect for human rights and constitutional governance.

The EU, which has previously countered misinformation from Muhoozi’s affiliates, reiterated the need for diplomatic respect and factual communication, especially in politically sensitive contexts.
